Bio
I began my career as an Instructional Assistant with FCPS in 1978. In 1980, I returned to college to enhance my teaching certifications and subsequently taught middle school in North Carolina. I made my way back to Virginia and became a FCPS teacher in 1986. After taking time off in 1991 to raise my three children, I returned to FCPS as a substitute teacher in 2008. In the fall of 2009, I joined Robinson Secondary as an Instructional Assistant, working in the Vision Resource Room. Currently, I support visually impaired students in both high school and middle school, helping them access classroom content. During the pandemic, while classes were virtual, I collaborated with the Special Education principal and co-chaired a biweekly Collaborative Learning Team (CLT) for paraprofessionals. From 2021 to 2024, I served as the Instructional Assistant Representative on the Support Services Employees’ Advisory Council (SSEAC). My career in FCPS has been varied; I have engaged with the system firsthand as a student (Robinson Secondary, Class of 1974), as an Instructional Assistant, an elementary school teacher, a parent, and currently again as an Instructional Assistant.
