We first met at Frost Middle School, but didn’t become close friends until TJ. We became friends that first year of high school over our shared middle school and our shared bus ride to and from school, living in the same neighborhood.
All four years of high school, we never had a class together, but we’d see each other every morning and afternoon on the bus. When we started driving to school, we’d make sure to still meet up in the mornings before classes, sitting at a table in the library, or in the afternoons, walking around the empty hallways of the school.
We both liked each other at some point, but we didn’t know how to say it until college, when we finally started dating! We were ironically at different colleges - Anhthu was at William & Mary and Kevin was at Tsinghua University.
We really appreciate how the Fairfax Public Schools system gave us the opportunity to meet and grow up with each other and many of our closest friends. It’s so special being able to look back on our similar experiences together- teachers we’ve both had, projects we were both assigned, and funny stories among our tight knit graduating class. Of course, FCPS has also helped us realize our career aspirations. Anhthu’s senior research as part of TJ’s Biotechnology and Life Sciences Lab helped solidify her passion for implementing biological science to cure disease. Kevin’s senior research in the Computer Systems lab gave him experience with AI and robotics that he is still using in his IT career today.
Anhthu is currently a second year medical student at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA and Kevin works as a Solutions Architect at Amazon Web Services in Arlington, VA. On weekends and on Anhthu’s school breaks, they love travelling together, spending time with their families, and trying new restaurants!
